Below are thirty of Obama’s appointed Czars, listed aphabetically by title, except for the last one. Note their respective credentials to serve with the authority and responsiblity of the position to which they were appointed. Remember, these people carry more influence over our government operations than cabinet members do, according to my understanding. If you think policies and actions coming our of Washington DC are radical, it does not take a genius to see why. Even worse, Congress is turning a blind eye and allowing these people to run our government under their noses. Any one of these czars is bad news; put them altogether, and we have a nuclear powder keg hanging by a tread above our country. Does BHO feels so insecure that he has to surround himself with the likes of these? Or is this part of an accelerated plot to destroy the America we know and love? Or is he simply trying to destory all respect for government authority? The handwriting is on the wall, my friends. But I ask, are these czars legal? Is this constitutional? Can these peole be removed from the offices they are holding before 2012? Any ideas how short of revolt? Can we wait that long? These appointments certainly generate myriads of questions about our president.

Barack Obama sees worst poll rating drop in 50 years

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

The decline in Barack Obama’s popularity since July has been the steepest of any president at the same stage of his first term for more than 50 years.

Gallup recorded an average daily approval rating of 53 per cent for Mr Obama for the third quarter of the year, a sharp drop from the 62 per cent he recorded from April.

His current approval rating – hovering just above the level that would make re-election an uphill struggle – is close to the bottom for newly-elected president. Mr Obama entered the White House with a soaring 78 per cent approval rating.

The bad polling news came as Mr Obama returned to the campaign trail to prevent his Democratic party losing two governorships next month in states in which he defeated Senator John McCain in last November’s election.

Jeffrey Jones of Gallup explained: “The dominant political focus for Obama in the third quarter was the push for health care reform, including his nationally televised address to Congress in early September.

“Obama hoped that Congress would vote on health care legislation before its August recess, but that goal was missed, and some members of Congress faced angry constituents at town hall meetings to discuss health care reform. Meanwhile, unemployment continued to climb near 10 per cent.”

Governor Jon Corzine of New Jersey is in severe danger of defeat while Democrats are fast losing hope that Creigh Deeds can beat his Republican opponent in Virginia. Twin Democratic losses would be a major blow to Mr Obama’s prestige.

Campaigning for Mr Corzine in Hackensack on Wednesday night, Mr Obama delivered a plea that almost seemed as much for himself as the local candidate: “I’m here today to urge you to cast aside the cynics and the sceptics, and prove to all Americans that leaders who do what’s right and who do what’s hard will be rewarded and not rejected.”

Mr Corzine, a former Goldman Sachs executive and multi-millionaire, is currently running even in New Jersey, which is normally comfortably Democratic, while Mr Deeds is trailing badly in Virginia, a swing state that was key to Mr Obama’s 2008 victory.

Mr Obama is also facing widespread criticism for his drawn-out decision-making process over what to do next in Afghanistan.

Republicans sense Mr Obama is in a vulnerable position and this week saw the return to the public stage of his perhaps most vehement opponent – Vice-President Dick Cheney.

In a blistering speech on Wednesday night, he accused Mr Obama of failing to give Americans troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals and of being seemingly “afraid to make a decision” about Afghanistan “The White House must stop dithering while America’s armed forces are in danger,” Cheney said at the Center for Security Policy in Washington.

“Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries.”

He hit out at Obama aides who suggested that the Bush administration had failed to weigh up conditions in Afghanistan properly before committing troops.

“Now they seem to be pulling back and blaming others for their failure to implement the strategy they embraced. It’s time for President Obama to do what it takes to win a war he has repeatedly and rightly called a war of necessity.”

First Lady requires more than twenty attendants By Dr. Paul L. Williams

Update: First Lady Now Requires 26 Servants
“The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it”
—Albert Einstein

“In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much,” she said. “See, that’s why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, “ Michelle Obama

No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn’t perform any official duties. But this hasn’t deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary.

How things have changed! If you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michele are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. Public:

$172,2000 – Sher, Susan (CHIEF OF STAFF)

$140,000 – Frye, Jocelyn C. (DEPUTY ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF POLICY AND PROJECTS FOR THE FIRST LADY)

$113,000 – Rogers, Desiree G. (SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT AND WHITE HOUSE SOCIAL SECRETARY)

$102,000 – Johnston, Camille Y. (SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS FOR THE FIRST LADY)

Winter, Melissa E. (SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT AND DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE FIRST LADY)

$90,000 – Medina, David S. (DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE FIRST LADY)

$84,000 – Lelyveld, Catherine M. (DIRECTOR AND PRESS SECRETARY TO THE FIRST LADY)

$75,000 – Starkey, Frances M. (DIRECTOR OF SCHEDULING AND ADVANCE FOR THE FIRST LADY)

$70,000 – Sanders, Trooper (DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF POLICY AND PROJECTS FOR THE FIRST LADY)

$65,000 – Burnough, Erinn J. (DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY SOCIAL SECRETARY)

Reinstein, Joseph B. (DEPUTY DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY SOCIAL SECRETARY)

$62,000 – Goodman, Jennifer R. (DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF SCHEDULING AND EVENTS COORDINATOR FOR THE FIRST LADY)

$60,000 – Fitts, Alan O. (DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF ADVANCE AND TRIP DIRECTOR FOR THE FIRST LADY)

Lewis, Dana M. (SPECIAL ASSISTANT AND PERSONAL AIDE TO THE FIRST LADY)

$52,500 – Mustaphi, Semonti M. (ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY PRESS SECRETARY TO THE FIRST LADY)

$50,000 – Jarvis, Kristen E. (SPECIAL ASSISTANT FOR SCHEDULING AND TRAVELING AIDE TO THE FIRST LADY)

$45,000 – Lechtenberg, Tyler A. (ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE FIRST LADY)

Tubman, Samantha (DEPUTY ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR,SOCIAL OFFICE)

$40,000 – Boswell, Joseph J. (EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE FIRST LADY)

$36,000 – Armbruster, Sally M. (STAFF ASSISTANT TO THE SOCIAL SECRETARY)

Bookey, Natalie (STAFF ASSISTANT)

Jackson, Deilia A. (DEPUTY ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE FIRST LADY)

In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much,” she said. “See, that’s why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service,”— Michelle Obama.

Fox News Locked Out

by A.W.R. Hawkins (more by this author)

Posted 10/15/2009 ET

On September 20, 2009, Obama appeared on five Sunday morning news shows in one day — Fox News Sunday was not included. Two weeks later, following what the New York Times referred to as a “Fox Summit” between Roger Ailes, chairman of Fox News, and David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Obama, Fox News was told they wouldn’t get to conduct any Obama interviews in the foreseeable future and all members of the administration, from the top down, were ordered to stay off Fox News.

When it was learned that the reason for the administration’s animosity toward Fox News was based in part on the network’s coverage of Obamacare and Glenn Beck’s opposition to bringing the Olympics to the Chicago, Fox News’ Chris Wallace called Obama a “crybaby” and the battle began.

The last time such a war raged between the White House and a media outlet, Richard Nixon was President, and his V.P, Spiro Agnew, was doing all he could to blackball the New York Times over their unflattering coverage of the Vietnam War. This time, the war is between a President whose skin is at least as thin as was Nixon’s, but whose motives are far more self-serving.

To put it bluntly: Obama doesn’t like the fact that Fox News personalities like Glenn Beck point out dichotomies between what the President says and what he does, between what he promises and what he delivers. Obama and his administration actually equate such critical journalism with warfare.

Of course Obama, ever the victim, wants to paint this as a war someone else started. This much was clear from the words his point person, Anita Dunn, used when she popped up on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” over the weekend: “[Fox News is] undertaking a war against Barack Obama and the White House.” i.e., “Fox News started this, we didn’t.”

As a consequence of what Fox News has supposedly started, Dunn said the administration was “gonna treat [Fox News] the way [the administration] would treat an opponent.” And why shouldn’t they? Since, according to Dunn, “Fox News often operates…as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party.”

Can this administration get any more petty?

Sure they can — and they have.

On September 30, 2009, on the tax-payer funded WhiteHouse.gov, the administration devoted a full page to pointing out Fox News’ “continued…disregard for…facts in [the network’s] attempt to smear the Administration’s effort to the win the Olympics for the United States.” The post centered on quotes from Glenn Beck, which appeared under the heading “rhetoric,” and were countered by quotes from the administration, which appeared under the heading “reality.”

The big problem for the administration is that some of what Beck said is irrefutable, such as his claim that Obama’s fellow Chicagoan and Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett would “benefit financially” from the Olympics. While the administration dismissed this as rhetoric, Michelle Malkin contends that if the games had come to Chicago, Jarrett would have received an “untold windfall” because she owns a portion of the land on which the Olympics would have been held.

To be “fair and balanced,” I should point out that Obama and his administration are not the only ones who currently handle probing questions, factual assertions, and honest journalism in this way. Rather, it is a common tactic taken by many Democrats.

Al Gore, resident global warming expert and inventor of the internet, recently took the same approach when questioned about factual inconsistencies discovered in his propaganda film, “An Inconvenient Truth.” At a gathering of 500 “environmental journalists” in Madison, Wisconsin, on October 9, 2009, Irish filmmaker Phelim McAleer dared to “[ask] Gore to address nine errors in his film identified by a British court in 2007.” When Gore sidestepped the court’s findings with his answers, McAleer pressed further, only to have his microphone turned off.

In other words, McAleer’s role in the discussion was ended in Madison just as Obama and Dunn want Fox News’ role in their discussions in D.C. to end. But the problem with trying to silence an outlet like Fox News or a personality like Beck is that they’re not limited to one microphone in Madison, Wisconsin.

Barring Fox News from the White House and administration officials from Fox News will do nothing to diminish the network’s ongoing, thorough examination of the chasm that exists between what Obama promises and what Obama delivers. And as Fox senior VP Michael Clemente points out, this attempted strangling of what remains of a free press in this country only drives their viewership higher. Clemente believes this “year…[will] be the Fox News Channel’s highest rated.”

To make matters worse for Obama, Europe’s newspapers are increasingly more critical of the administration as well. Days ago — October 12, 2009 to be exact — the UK’s Telegraph outlined 10 pledges Obama made on the campaign trail which he has already broken as president.

What will Obama do in response to this? Will he ban members of his administration from accessing the Telegraph on the web or taking calls from its reporters?

It really doesn’t matter what he does next. Ever since September 20th, when he went out of his way to send Fox News a message by avoiding their Sunday show but appearing on NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and Univision, it’s clear that he’s petty and too weak to handle criticism.

There’s only one word for President Obama — “crybaby.” (RLS-I would also add “tyrant” because Obama knows what he is doing!)

Why President Obama Was Awarded the Nobel Prize

by Dennis Prager

The Nobel Peace Prize, already devalued, has sunk to a new low. This assessment has nothing to do with one’s estimation of this year’s recipient, President Barack Obama. Most of those on the left, with a few predictable exceptions such as the New York Times, regard giving the president the award as belittling him and the prize.

How did this happen? What was the Oslo Committee’s motive?

They may be moral idiots, but they are not stupid: I believe that they had two clear aims.

One is to undercut American exceptionalism — the notion that America has a superior moral value system to that of the “world” (specifically the United Nations and the European Union) and America’s willing to use its unique power, alone when necessary, in accordance with that value system. The other is to promote an essentially pacifist agenda.

Here is the entire announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize committee:

1. “The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Meaning: No more Lone Ranger America.

2. “The Committee has attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.”

Meaning: The Nobel Committee wants no country to possess nuclear weapons. That an American president shares this dream and is working to achieve it excites the Nobel Committee — and the world’s left generally — beyond words.

Many people around the world — not just Americans — would characterize a world in which America and all other decent countries had no nuclear weapons not as a dream, but as a nightmare. But for the naive left-wing (a redundant phrase: If one is not naive about evil, one is not on the left) members of the Nobel Committee, the prospect of encouraging an American president to dismantle his country’s nuclear arsenal was too tempting to allow to pass — even at the price of appearing foolish.

3. “Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play.”

Meaning: To the international left, as embodied by the five members of the Nobel Prize Committee, the United Nations is the beacon of hope for mankind.

To many Americans and others, however, the United Nations is regarded as a moral wasteland that rewards some of world’s cruelest regimes with seats on its Human Rights Committee, does nothing to prevent genocides (some would way say the U.N. actually abets them), honoring tyrants, and mired in corruption.

4. “Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts.”

Meaning: As the pacifist bumper sticker puts it: “War is not the answer.”

Oslo’s approach echoes what the British government under Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain believed vis a vis Adolf Hitler. But had Hitler been confronted instead of “dialogued” with, perhaps tens of millions of innocent men and women’s lives would have been spared and the Holocaust averted. Europeans tend to believe that evil regimes will act responsibly because of dialogue, not threats of force.

5. “The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations.”

Meaning: We believe that a world in which no country possesses nuclear weapons will be a safer world. We believe that even though the technology to make nuclear weapons will still exist, no terrorist organization, nor any other bad people, will make such weapons.

The existence and deterrent power of nuclear weapons have probably saved as many lives as have antibiotics. As David Von Drehle writes in this week’s Time Magazine, “If the Nobel committee wants someday to honor the force that has done the most over the past 60 years to end industrial-scale war, they will award a peace prize to the bomb.”

6. “Thanks to Obama’s initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting.”

Meaning: To our delight, unlike the previous president, this one believes in global warming and in changing the American economy to combat it.

The “climate change” scare has become the most effective vehicle for compelling a transformation of Western economies along the lines that left-wing environmentalists have urged for decades.

7. “Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.”

This, unfortunately, has no meaning; it is nonsense. Under Barack Obama, the United States has not been the friend of democrats around the world. America has responded weakly to the democratic movement in Iran, ended the funding of the largest pro-Iranian human rights groups in America, pressured democratic Israel, made overtures to Hugo Chavez while denying American ally and pro-democratic Colombia a free trade agreement, abandoned Honduran anti-Chavez democrats, and has obsequiously deferred to Vladimir Putin.

8. “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.”

Meaning: Only very rarely does the European left have such a kindred spirit in the American presidency.

9. “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

Meaning: With Barack Obama, we in Europe finally have an opportunity to end American exceptionalism.

The Oslo committee’s view is, tragically, true. Thanks to Barack Obama, America is for the first time is aligning its values with those of “the majority of the world’s population.” If you think the world’s population has had better values than America, that it has made societies that are more open, free, and tolerant than American society, and that it has fought for others’ liberty more than America has, you should be delighted.

Can you believe Obama’s “America Sucks 09″ tour & speeches?

Can you believe Obama’s ”America Sucks 09″ tour & speeches?

Upon reflection, kindly speaking, this is the last time I will defend my claims [regarding Marxism] in this forum. Anyone tells me again that Obama isn’t a Marxist radical, I’m simply going to send them this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUsNMsrGycY&feature=related  in Obama’s own words…I’d suggest you do the same. Then if they don’t believe it? Well, they are not worthy of reasoned factual debate. I call it the Michael Moore/Bob Beckel/Alan Colmes syndrome. Conversely, most of us conservatives never believed Bush was a true conservative, albeit a good man, with conservative tendencies and labeled him accordingly. McCain?…a total RINO and a partial liberal. And, now it’s time to rebuild the Republican Party again. NOT a Third Party! Remember Ross Perot’s consequences?

If you read it, you may have been curious why I didn’t answer Pippin (open eblast forum debate) when he challenged me last month…Simply said, I told Pippin in my first reply that we’d never agree because he likes playing the contrarian railing against prevailing conservative positions and wisdom…

I’ve been challenged many times about my claims that “Obama is a Marxist”. I was told by Pippin that “I didn’t know what I was talking about”, because he, Pippin (a lawyer) had written a thesis paper in college on Karl Marx & Marxism, who said ”Obama is not a Marxist”…

…Analytical skills are another thing? It’s kinda like the typical passionless NPR phenomenon where some inadvertently become a by-product of the indoctrination they listen to, accounting for some of the 20% self-identified liberals in the culture war today. I find most of them don’t even know what the former self-acknowledged progressive Presidents TR, Wilson and FDR did. Who implemented Marxist tenets and programs during their presidencies…Most of which are still in place today.

Heck I haven’t even brought up Fredrick Hegel, the original community organizer of Germany in the 1800′s, and Hegelianism…No need,  it’s not that complicated to see…for those who care to see the truth…It’s Marxism thru-&-thru! History revisited…Have we learned anything?

This is self narrated and short to the point, from Obama’s book Dreams from My Father. I think it’s from page 41…

A few observations on racism

Firstly, for any of the uninformed, or those who have accepted the self-serving screeds as decried by black militants and the apologists in the government controlled media, let’s accurately define racism. Racism as defined by Websters is as follows; “A belief that race is the primary determinent of human traits and capacities , a racial prejudice or descrimination.”

Please note that nowhere in the definition is there any mention, implicitly or explicitly, of Blacks .– Although many  have unfortunately accepted the belief that only Whites can perpetrate racism, and only Blacks can be the victims of it, this is a viewpoint that is often borne out of ignorance and / or guilt.

While Blacks may have been most often the victims of racism, it is certainly not exclusive to them. When my forefathers came to this country from Italy at the turn of the 20th Century, they encountered siginificant racism / discrimination. Many nationalities could say the same thing. Like it or not , fair or not, that’s life. They moved on and overcame.

The current over-use / mis-use of racism, has now trivialized it to the point of being of little consequence / siginificance. The Left and many Black Leaders and media types have cried wolf many ,many, times more than once too often. It’s not going to work any longer. And , on balance, I view this as a good thing. It has effectively put the racism based extorsion enterprises of the likes of Jackson and Sharpton out of business. And I believe that it has awakened  many Whites’ who heretofore were uncomfortable or intimidated with the prospect of being labeled as racist. They are now willing to stand up to these accusations. In other words, they are not going to take it any longer.

This Nation is on the precipice of being divided in such a way as we have not seen since the Civil War. And Obama has accomplished all of this in 7plus short months. He has set race relations back more decades than I even care to speculate.

For Conservative Americans, hes the gift that keeps on giving and I don’t expect him to abate anytime soon. After all, this is who he is.

Wake up and pay attention America.

Best Regards,

Dave

Obama and the CIA: Why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

Barack Obama and the CIA: Why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

By Gerald Warner

If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people – not even Jimmy Carter.

Obama’s problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens. He has never abandoned the campaign trail.

That is why he opened Pandora’s Box by publishing the Justice Department’s legal opinions on waterboarding and other hardline interrogation techniques. He cynically subordinated the national interest to his partisan desire to embarrass the Republicans. Then he had to rush to Langley, Virginia to try to reassure a demoralised CIA that had just discovered the President of the United States was an even more formidable foe than al-Qaeda.

“Don’t be discouraged by what’s happened the last few weeks,” he told intelligence officers. Is he kidding? Thanks to him, al-Qaeda knows the private interrogation techniques available to the US intelligence agencies and can train its operatives to withstand them – or would do so, if they had not already been outlawed.

So, next time a senior al-Qaeda hood is captured, all the CIA can do is ask him nicely if he would care to reveal when a major population centre is due to be hit by a terror spectacular, or which American city is about to be irradiated by a dirty bomb. Your view of this situation will be dictated by one simple criterion: whether or not you watched the people jumping from the twin towers.

Obama promised his CIA audience that nobody would be prosecuted for past actions. That has already been contradicted by leftist groups with a revanchist ambition to put Republicans, headed if possible by Condoleezza Rice, in the dock. Talk about playing party politics with national security. Martin Scheinin, the United Nations special investigator for human rights, claims that senior figures, including former vice president Dick Cheney, could face prosecution overseas. Ponder that – once you have got over the difficulty of locating the United Nations and human rights within the same dimension.

President Pantywaist Obama should have thought twice before sitting down to play poker with Dick Cheney. The former vice president believes documents have been selectively published and that releasing more will prove how effective the interrogation techniques were. Under Dubya’s administration, there was no further atrocity on American soil after 9/11.

President Pantywaist’s recent world tour, cosying up to all the bad guys, excited the ambitions of America’s enemies. Here, they realised, is a sucker they can really take to the cleaners. His only enemies are fellow Americans. Which prompts the question: why does President Pantywaist hate America so badly?

Obama Redistributive Change

Obama and ‘Redistributive Change’
Forget the recession and the “uninsured.” Obama has bigger fish to fry.

By Victor Davis Hanson

The first seven months of the Obama administration seemingly make no sense. Why squander public approval by running up astronomical deficits in a time of pre-existing staggering national debt?

Why polarize opponents after promising bipartisan transcendence?

Why create vast new programs when the efficacy of big government is already seen as dubious?

But that is exactly the wrong way to look at these first seven months of Obamist policy-making.

Take increased federal spending and the growing government absorption of GDP. Given the resiliency of the U.S. economy, it would have been easy to ride out the recession. In that case we would still have had to deal with a burgeoning and unsustainable annual federal deficit that would have approached $1 trillion.

Instead, Obama may nearly double that amount of annual indebtedness with more federal stimuli and bailouts, newly envisioned cap-and-trade legislation, and a variety of fresh entitlements. Was that fiscally irresponsible? Yes, of course.

But I think the key was not so much the spending excess or new entitlements. The point instead was the consequence of the resulting deficits, which will require radically new taxation for generations. If on April 15 the federal and state governments, local entities, the Social Security system, and the new health-care programs can claim 70 percent of the income of the top 5 percent of taxpayers, then that is considered a public good — every bit as valuable as funding new programs, and one worth risking insolvency.

Individual compensation is now seen as arbitrary and, by extension, inherently unfair. A high income is now rationalized as having less to do with market-driven needs, acquired skills, a higher level of education, innate intelligence, inheritance, hard work, or accepting risk. Rather income is seen more as luck-driven, cruelly capricious, unfair — even immoral, in that some are rewarded arbitrarily on the basis of race, class, and gender advantages, others for their overweening greed and ambition, and still more for their quasi-criminality.

“Patriotic” federal healers must then step in to “spread the wealth.” Through redistributive tax rates, they can “treat” the illness that the private sector has caused. After all, there is no intrinsic reason why an auto fabricator makes $60 in hourly wages and benefits, while a young investment banker finagles $500.

Or, in the president’s own language, the government must equalize the circumstances of the “waitress” with those of the “lucky.” It is thus a fitting and proper role of the new federal government to rectify imbalances of compensation — at least for those outside the anointed Guardian class. In a 2001 interview Obama in fact outlined the desirable political circumstances that would lead government to enforce equality of results when he elaborated on what he called an “actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change.”

Still, why would intelligent politicians try to ram through, in mere weeks, a thousand pages of health-care gibberish — its details outsourced to far-left elements in the Congress (and their staffers) — that few in the cabinet had ever read or even knew much about?

Once again, I don’t think health care per se was ever really the issue. When pressed, no one in the administration seemed to know whether illegal aliens were covered. Few cared why young people do not divert some of their entertainment expenditures to a modest investment in private catastrophic coverage.

Warnings that Canadians already have their health care rationed, wait in long lines, and are denied timely and critical procedures also did not seem to matter. And no attention was paid to statistics suggesting that, if we exclude homicides and auto accidents, Americans live as long on average as anyone in the industrial world, and have better chances of surviving longer with heart disease and cancer. That the average American did not wish to radically alter his existing plan, and that he understood that the uninsured really did have access to health care, albeit in a wasteful manner at the emergency room, was likewise of no concern.

The issue again was larger, and involved a vast reinterpretation of how America receives health care.  Whether more or fewer Americans would get better or worse access and cheaper or more expensive care, or whether the government can or cannot afford such new entitlements, oddly seemed largely secondary to the crux of the debate.

Instead, the notion that the state will assume control, in Canada-like fashion, and level the health-care playing field was the real concern. “They” (the few) will now have the same care as “we” (the many). Whether the result is worse or better for everyone involved is extraneous, since sameness is the overarching principle.

We can discern this same mandated egalitarianism beneath many of the administration’s recent policy initiatives. Obama is not a pragmatist, as he insisted, nor even a liberal, as charged.

Rather, he is a statist. The president believes that a select group of affluent, highly educated technocrats — cosmopolitan, noble-minded, and properly progressive — supported by a phalanx of whiz-kids fresh out of blue-chip universities with little or no experience in the marketplace, can direct our lives far better than we can ourselves. By “better” I do not mean in a fashion that, measured by disinterested criteria, makes us necessarily wealthier, happier, more productive, or freer.

Instead, “better” means “fairer,” or more “equal.” We may “make” different amounts of money, but we will end up with more or less similar net incomes. We may know friendly doctors, be aware of the latest procedures, and have the capital to buy blue-chip health insurance, but no matter. Now we will all alike queue up with our government-issued insurance cards to wait our turn at the ubiquitous corner clinic.

None of this equality-of-results thinking is new.

When radical leaders over the last 2,500 years have sought to enforce equality of results, their prescriptions were usually predictable: redistribution of property; cancellation of debts; incentives to bring out the vote and increase political participation among the poor; stigmatizing of the wealthy, whether through the extreme measure of ostracism or the more mundane forced liturgies; use of the court system to even the playing field by targeting the more prominent citizens; radical growth in government and government employment; the use of state employees as defenders of the egalitarian faith; bread-and-circus entitlements; inflation of the currency and greater national debt to lessen the power of accumulated capital; and radical sloganeering about reactionary enemies of the new state.

The modern versions of much of the above already seem to be guiding the Obama administration — evident each time we hear of another proposal to make it easier to renounce personal debt; federal action to curtail property or water rights; efforts to make voter registration and vote casting easier; radically higher taxes on the top 5 percent; takeover of private business; expansion of the federal government and an increase in government employees; or massive inflationary borrowing. The current class-warfare “them/us” rhetoric was predictable.

Usually such ideologies do not take hold in America, given its tradition of liberty, frontier self-reliance, and emphasis on personal freedom rather than mandated fraternity and egalitarianism. At times, however, the stars line up, when a national catastrophe, like war or depression, coincides with the appearance of an unusually gifted, highly polished, and eloquent populist. But the anointed one must be savvy enough to run first as a centrist in order later to govern as a statist.

Given the September 2008 financial meltdown, the unhappiness over the war, the ongoing recession, and Barack Obama’s postracial claims and singular hope-and-change rhetoric, we found ourselves in just such a situation. For one of the rare times in American history, statism could take hold, and the country could be pushed far to the left.

That goal is the touchstone that explains the seemingly inexplicable — and explains also why, when Obama is losing independents, conservative Democrats, and moderate Republicans, his anxious base nevertheless keeps pushing him to become even more partisan, more left-wing, angrier, and more in a hurry to rush things through. They understand the unpopularity of the agenda and the brief shelf life of the president’s charm. One term may be enough to establish lasting institutional change.

Obama and his supporters at times are quite candid about such a radical spread-the-wealth agenda, voiced best by Rahm Emanuel — “You don’t ever want a crisis to go to waste; it’s an opportunity to do important things that you would otherwise avoid” — or more casually by Obama himself — “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

So we move at breakneck speed in order not to miss this rare opportunity when the radical leadership of the Congress and the White House for a brief moment clinch the reins of power. By the time a shell-shocked public wakes up and realizes that the prescribed chemotherapy is far worse than the existing illness, it should be too late to revive the old-style American patient.

Obama – No debate over health care

Democrats never wanted a real debate over health care

by: Jonah Goldberg

To listen to the White House and its supporters in and out of the media, you would think that opposition to “ObamaCare” is the hobgoblin of a few small minds on the right. Racists, fascists, Neanderthals, the whole “Star Wars,’ cantina of boogeymen and cranks stand opposed to much-needed reform.

Left out of this fairly naked effort to demonize many with the actions of a few is the simple fact that ObamaCare – however defined – has been tanking in the polls for weeks. President Obama’s handling of health care is unpopular with a majority of Americans and a majority of self-proclaimed independents.

Focusing on the town halls has its merits, but if you actually wanted ObamaCare to pass, casting a majority of Americans as the stooges of racist goons may not be the best way to go.

Imagine if George W. Bush, in his effort to partially privatize Social Security, had insisted that the “time for talking is over.” Picture, if you will, the Bush White House asking Americans to turn in their e-mails in the pursuit of “fishy” dissent. Conjure a scenario under which then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott derided critics as “evil-mongers” the way Harry Reid recently described town hall protesters. Or if then-House Speaker Dennis Hastert and then-Majority Whip Tom DeLay had called critics “un-American” the way Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer did last week, or if White House strategist Karl Rove had been Sir Spam-a-lot instead of David Axelrod.

Now, I’m not asking you, dear reader, to do this so that you might be able to see through the glare of Obama’s halo or the outlines of the media’s staggering double standard when it comes to covering this White House. Rather, it is to grasp that the Obama administration has been astoundingly incompetent.

Lashing out at the town hall protesters, playing the race card, whining about angry white men and whispering ominously about right-wing militias is almost always a sign of liberalism’s weakness – a failure of the imagination.

The left, broadly speaking, has been attacking conservative talk radio and all it allegedly represents for the better part of 20 years now. When Bill Clinton needed a convenient villain, he attacked Rush Limbaugh. When Bush emerged victorious from the Florida recount, liberals concluded that what they really needed was their own version of Limbaugh. In March, at the first sign of resistance from congressional Republicans, Obama complained that the GOP was Limbaugh’s lap dog, and both the White House and much of the press corps went into anti-Limbaugh mode.

It’s funny how these supposed champions of the Enlightenment can’t grasp that people can disagree with them for honest reasons. Instead, we simply must be Limbaugh’s automatons, which is to say racist, fascist thugs.

In addition to the slander, such complaints are monumentally, incandescently lame coming from a party that controls Washington. According to liberals themselves, these evil-mongers are a tiny minority. So why not ignore them?

Well, because they can’t. One of the reasons the term “ObamaCare” has become a journalistic convention is that there is no bill. You can’t talk about Obama’s actual health care plan because there isn’t one. There are a bunch of competing bills, proposals, ideas swirling around the halls of Congress like flotsam in a sewer. As even Robert Reich, Clinton‘s Labor secretary recently conceded, the failure to put forward a concrete proposal allows opponents to pick from a menu of scary ideas and possibly ties, all of which can be labeled ObamaCare.

Suspicion of bad motives is reinforced by Obama’s determination to steamroll to victory. Indeed, Democrat dudgeon that the town hall protesters don’t want civil debate is hysterical, given that Obama wanted this over before the August recess. No wonder the president who thought the time for talk was over long ago now doesn’t like the talk he’s getting.
